Discover the most popular Wedding Ceremony rituals

In a Wedding Ceremony, different rituals can be observed, depending on traditions, cultures and the wishes of the Bride and Groom. Here are some of the most common rituals:

The Exchange of Vows

The bride and groom express their commitments and promises to each other. This symbolic ritual, charged with emotion and meaning, is often considered the very heart of the Wedding Ceremony, reflecting the essence of the union between the two people.

The Exchange of Wedding Rings

Most brides and grooms don't envisage their wedding without exchanging wedding rings. Face to face, the Bride and Groom exchange rings, orchestrated by the Officiant. This can be a very intimate and emotional moment for the Bride and Groom. It's truly a moment to express love and emotional commitment to each other, and to their loved ones.

The Tree of Prints

The Footprint Tree ritual is a great way to include your Guests in the realization of your Wedding Ceremony. During the Ceremony, you can get your guests to leave their prints on a sheet of paper, with the aim of drawing a tree with all the prints. Each print symbolizes a leaf or branch of your marriage tree. You'll have a unique souvenir, built with the help, love and support of your loved ones.

The Candle Ceremony

You'll need 3 large candles. Each one symbolizes the past, present and future. The first candle is lit by your parents or the people who raised you. The second Candle can be lit by your witnesses who support you every day. And finally, the last Candle should be lit by the married couple to symbolize their promise of eternity.

The Time Capsule

The idea behind this ritual is to be able to preserve material memories, many years after your Ceremony. You'll need to make or buy a box, which will then be sealed. In this box, you can place mementos of your Wedding, including a beautiful bottle of wine. Traditionally, each bride and groom writes a love letter to his or her partner, which is placed in the box. The Capsule should then be buried in your garden, out of sight and out of mind. A few years later, often 5 or 10 years, you'll open the Capsule, reminisce about your marriage, read the love letters tucked inside and enjoy the wine left in the box together. Just like good wine, your love will grow stronger as the years go by!

The Sand Ritual

The bride and groom hold two jugs filled with different-colored sand, which they mix by pouring into one large vase. The two colors then mix, and the Wedding is sealed. By performing this ritual, you demonstrate to each other that you accept each other's differences and that your union is insoluble, since it is now impossible to separate your grains of sand. However, your sand retains its color, symbolizing the fact that you've kept your individual personalities, but you've become one.

The Ribbon Ritual

The bride and groom prepare a declaration of love in advance, to be delivered at the Wedding Ceremony. As they recite their vows to each other, their loved ones tie ribbons around their wrists. Each ribbon has its own symbol: love, fidelity, happiness, solidarity, trust, family, respect, ... The Bride and Groom are now bound forever, with the impossibility of detaching from each other. Your love is sealed forever.

The wool balls

The bride and groom will throw balls of wool to the guests in front of them. Guests who receive a ball of wool should tie it to their fingertip and throw it to another guest at the Wedding Ceremony. From thread to thread, a web will be formed as the officiant encourages guests to throw the balls of wool to each other to create a bond. This ritual will also create a joyful atmosphere, symbolising the bonds created with your loved ones, family and friends.

Each ritual has its own meaning and will help to make your Wedding Ceremony unique and memorable.

And you, what ritual will you choose for your Big Day?
